Monthly Meetings

Meetings are held on the last Monday of each
month, from February to November, at the Victorian Artists Society. We have been meeting in this iconic space for almost 50 years.

Our meetings combine a short business component that includes an update on current activities available to members, along with a session designed to inform and inspire.   We have demonstrations from guest artists, interesting talks or an information sessions related to the watercolour medium (including manufacturers).

Meetings are for members only or invited guests.

Maurice Callow Lecture 30 October 2023

We are excited to be able to present a talk on the Hermannsburg School prepared by Dr Beverley Castleman.

Albert Namatjira inspired a school of artists which became known as the ‘Hermannsburg School’. All Hermannsburg watercolour landscape paintings display a vision of country unique to the Western Arrernte peoples cultural heritage. Beverley has studied this school extensively and has assembled an impressive collection of Hermannsburg watercolours.

Thomas Schaller Demonstration 25 September 2023

Thomas will explore the concepts of intent, composition, value, colour, contrast and tension in the context of watercolour painting.  The 'experience of place' is important to his work and how the power of imagination can be used to re-assess your approach to your own painting style.

A multi award-winning artist, architect, and author, Thomas is our second distinguished international artist invited to Australia by WSV in 2023.  If you missed his sold out WSV workshop, you can watch the artist's 35 years of experience come alive on the page at this meeting .
